The MIRACA Workbench is now available

The book provides a toolkit for climate risk assessments, use cases, and technical information on how to visualise and download data.

The MIRACA project has just launched the MIRACA Workbench, a toolkit designed to support the climate adaptation of critical infrastructure across Europe. These resources enable multi-hazard climate risk assessments at various levels of analysis: at asset, network, and system level. The workbench provides infrastructure owners, operators, and policymakers with the necessary means to effectively address the impacts of climate change, and throughout the year it will be updated and will include new material.

MIRACA’s innovative approach extends the analysis of exposure and vulnerabilities beyond the asset level and allows to assess the interdependencies between critical infrastructure, and understand the risks at the network and systems level.

The project also addresses asset-level damage with a framework that quantifies direct damages and their indirect economic losses, and is developing a framework to quantify adaptation strategies that include from asset-level measures to network-level.

Into the book: what can you find?

  • The MIRACA approach, a section describing the methodology on how to develop a climate risk analysis for critical infrastructure, centered on assessing climate risks beyond the asset-level, understanding critical infrastructure as networks and systems. The section is illustrated with an end-to-end example in Belgium.
  • Five use cases across Europe, in which local public authorities and relevant infrastructure managers steer and co-develop the MIRACA Framework. These Use Cases cover a variety of locations, infrastructure types and climate hazards.
  • Background materials describing in more detail the core developments of the project. It includes exposure and vulnerability databases, network modelling, the macroeconomic impacts, and cost-benefit analysis of adaptation.
